The search for a missing Highlands County woman has ended tragically, with the discovery of her body in Indian River County. 24-year-old Khadijah Anderson had last been seen a week ago and had been on her way to Lakeland.
She never arrived.
Sheriff’s officials have released no details, other than to say her car was found near an outlet mall in Indian River County. the vehicle was unlocked with the keys inside.
A death investigation is continuing.

A Deltona woman was seriously injured yesterday in a Highlands County traffic crash. Florida Highway Patrol reports indicate Jamie Karbett was eastbound on State Road 70 early yesterday morning, when she failed to negotiate a curve and hit a guardrail.
Karbett’s Honda Civic reportedly was nearly split in half with rescue worker having to extricate the 31-year-old woman from between the car and the guardrail.
She was airlifted out to a trauma center.

Area firefighters were busy over the weekend. Units from Lorida and Desoto City joined the Florida Forest Service in surrounding a brush fire on US 98 near Johnson Lane. That one apparently started from an unattended burn pile.
Later, units from Sun ‘N Lake South and Venus were called out to extinguish a bush fire off Ben Hill Griffin Road. That one apparently was started by the spark off a mower.
No structure damage or injuries were reported in either incident. Both fires were held to about an acre.

Many people have been wondering about the airplanes flying around the county this past weekend. Formation Flying teams were at the Sebring Regional Airport, practicing up for this week’s Sun ‘N Fun Fly-in being held up in Lakeland.
They weren’t just any aircraft, a number of World War II-era vintage warbirds were on hand including T-6, T-28 and the famous P-51 Phantom Mustangs.
Next door at the Sebring International Raceway, the event was complimented with vintage sports cars as the Historic Sports Car Racing’s “Spring Fling” took to the track.
