Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales is getting a much-needed facelift this summer to preserve its historic charm. For the first time in over 20 years, the moat surrounding the iconic tower has been drained to remove built-up algae and add water plants to help keep it clean naturally. The more than two dozen koi fish that call the moat home have been temporarily relocated for care during the project. The renovation, which includes replacing the tower’s roof and drainage system, will cost about $1.2 million, funded through grants and donations. President David Price says keeping the landmark historically accurate is vital, and the goal is to have the moat refilled by mid-July and all work finished by fall. Visitors can still enjoy the famous carillon bells throughout the restoration

Olmstead was arrested and booked on felony criminal mischief charges.
