RCMA will celebrate the grand opening of its new Avon Park Child Development Center with a ribbon cutting Friday morning, September 18th, at 10:30, at 1400 Williams Gray Court. The event will include tours, remarks from community leaders and a dedication to the late Al Hinson Senior. The center will provide early childhood education for local children and families.
Victory Plaza, a race-themed mini shopping plaza on U.S. 27 South in Sebring, is targeting an October 1st grand opening. The 12,000-square-foot plaza received a temporary certificate of occupancy August 31st, and tenants are moving in. All 10 units are leased, with businesses including Southern Luv BBQ, Lola’s Nail Lounge, UrgiMed and Checkered Flag Candy & Cones. A final certificate is pending engineering approval.
A Frostproof woman is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say she broke into a storage unit and stole about five-thousand dollars’ worth of property. Investigators say the victim spotted the stolen items being sold on Facebook Marketplace. A search of Megan Thacker’s home turned up much of the property, including firearms and ammunition. Thacker is also accused of being a convicted felon in possession of weapons.
An Arcadia man is facing several charges after deputies say he struck a woman with his car during a domestic dispute, leaving her seriously injured. Authorities say James Hand tried to conceal his identity after being mistakenly released from custody before completing an out-of-state prison sentence. Hand was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, domestic battery and obstruction. He’s being held in the DeSoto County Jail without bond.
