News Update for 1/1/20

Officials at AdventHealth Highlands say they are still awaiting a new year’s baby. Reportedly, they are hopeful there may be one later today – as is the expectant mother.
They did have a boy born last night. The last new Highlands Countian of 2019 came into the world shortly before 8:PM. Officials say mom and son are doing fine.

The new year, and new decade has started out on a down note with a traffic fatality here in Highlands County. A 31-year-old Sebring man was killed in an early-morning traffic crash. Florida Highway Patrol officials say Troy Lee Jones was driving his Pontiac Vibe on County Road 627 south of Avon Park, when he left the road , ran though a barbed wire fence and slammed into an abandoned building.
Troopers say they still are not certain what caused the accident. It’s Highlands’ first traffic fatality of the new year.

Sebring Police worked a traffic accident this morning as well. Two vehicles reportedly came together at Lakeview and Pine. That one happened shortly after 3:am.
Two people reportedly were transported to area hospitals. They say additional information will be released pending a further investigation.
