It appears that if his job as Highlands County’s Public Safety Director does not work out, Marc Bashoor may have a modeling career as a fallback, Over the past couple years he has done modeling for an international fashion magazine and was cast in a movie role shot in Orlando.

After nearly two decades and hundreds of thousands of dollars in tourist tax revenue, it appears the Highlands County Tourist Development Council may be promoting their own event. They reportedly will coordinate a “Festival of the Arts’ in October.
TDC officials say the plan is to make a multi-week festival comprised of individual art and culture events. The events would take place at various locations throughout the county.
They say the plan currently is for it to be coordinated on an annual basis. It appears to be based on Boca Raton’s “Festival of the Arts BOCA.” held each Spring. On social media, TDC officials have solicited other events to join in and be part.

Florida Highway Patrol officials have identified the driver that was killed yesterday in an early morning traffic accident here in Highlands County. They say 31-year-old Troy Lee Jones was at the wheel of the Pontiac Vibe that went off County Road 627 near Avon Park. The car went through a barbed wire fence and slammed into an abandoned building on the property.
Troopers say it still is unclear why the Sebring man lost control of the car. He is Highlands’ first traffic fatality of the new year.

Polk County Sheriff’s officials say they still are looking for information as to the vehicle that hit a Lake Wales man and did not stop. That accident occurred this past Saturday on the North Scenic Highway in the Crown Jewel of the Ridge.
Officials say a rear view mirror broke off the car. It indicates the car was a Honda Accord made between 1994-1997. The color is designated as “Eucalyptus Green Pearl.” Anyone with information on that accident is asked to call Polk County sheriff’s officials.
