News Update for 1/15/21

Highlands County school board members have been briefed about an effort to honor one of their longtime employees. Representatives of the Highlands County Education Support Personnel Association have revealed plans to name one of their facilities after Israel “Izzy” Santiago.
Santiago passed away last year, after driving a bus for the district for three decades. Union officials say they want to have the driver’s lounge at the Sebring Bus facility named in his honor.

A traffic crash in Bartow reportedly claimed a life last night. The accident occurred on State Road 60 east of Bonnie Mine Road about 7:30. No names or other details have yet been released.
An accident in Frostproof this morning reportedly has sent at least one person to the hospital. That one occurred about 6:30 at the Scenic Highway and Lake Moody Road. Witnesses say there was dense fog in the area.
