By a 4-1 vote, Avon Park city council members have voted to revert to their old hook-up fees for water and sewer service. The action comes on the heels of a couple of requests to reconsider, after a proposed laundromat connection charge came in at north of $200,000 dollars.
Avon Park Finance Director Melody Sauerhafer presented council with a survey of better than a dozen counties and communities with like fees ranging from as much as $111,000 dollars to as little as $8,000 dollars.
The council decided to not try and pay for a new wastewater treatment facility with fees, but rather seek grant money for such a project. They then decided to go back to their former fee schedule.
