News Update for 10/10/19

Residents have been asking about increased air traffic in the area. Thedy’re right. Officials at the Avon Park Air Force Range have confirmed that they are in the middle of a large training exercise.
The activity is slated to run through the end of the month.

You may be seeing cars on trailers today as participants begin arriving at the Sebring International Raceway for Spectoberfest. It’s the fourth annual such gathering at the historic raceway, which features classic BMWs on the track in various competitions.
At speed rides and parade laps around the track also will be featured.
Caravans of the cars are being organized both from Miami and West Palm Beach. The event runs all day Saturday.

The Highlands County School Board has updated a number of regulations for the school system. Yhey have taken action to revise rules on entrance requirements, student records, Safe School officers, school safety & security, conduct and emergency preparedness.
They took the action at their meeting earlier this week.

If you’re headed to Okeechobee, the Florida Department of Transportation wants you to know that beginning today, construction crews will begin work on the bridges on US 98 over the Kissimmee River, Lorida Creek and Istokpoga Canal.
The crews will be making structural repairs to the bridges and single-lane closures will occur.
Authorities are warning motorists to use caution in these areas and watch for workers in the construction zones. The work is slated to be finished sometime in the spring of next year.
