News Update for 10/7/21

The last of the trio of WaWa stores in Highlands County opened this morning. The location, on Highway 27 across from AdVent Health of Sebring has the same kinds of offers as the first two – including free coffee and free T-shirts for the first visitors.
The doors will opened at 8:00 with grand opening festivities at 9am. Reportedly, the first two stores set chain-wide records when they opened earlier this month as Highlands County residents turned out to welcome the new business.

Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an early morning drive-by shooting incident. According to reports, somebody opened fire on a house on Cornell Street in Avon Park shortly before 1AM.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Anyone who saw the vehicle or has additional information is asked to call the Highlands County Sheriff’s office.

A worker was injured yesterday at an industrial accident in Lake Placid. According to reports, the roofer was doing work at a nursery off County Road 621, when the ceiling gave way and he plummeted to the concrete below.
The ma, whose name has not been released, was airlifted out by the Aeromed Air Ambulance to a regional medical facility – his condition is not known.

A 77-year-old Polk County woman was killed when a front-end loader backed over and completely crushed her car. The Florida Highway Patrol says the woman was at a stop sign in Winter Haven when the tractor backed over her sedan before stopping.
The 26-year-old tractor driver was not injured. Officials say the case and any charges are pending
