News Update for 10/8/21

A couple of grand openings are planned for this weekend. First, will be the Champion for Children’s Theater on the Circle in Downtown Sebring. Longtime resident and musician Harry Havery has taken over management of the facility, and has planned an ongoing series of entertainment in both free and ticketed events.
The first will be tomorrow evening as the California Toe Jam Band takes to the stage in a free show. Seats will be on a first come, first served basis.
Also tomorrow evening will be the first event of the Lawn Mower Racing Season. The opener last month was put off due to concerns about the coronavirus. However, organizers from NASGRASS say they WILL be racing Saturday night.
The Avon Park Mowerplex is located off Highway 64 at the western end of the Avon Park airport.

Utilities customers at the Sun ‘N Lake improvement district are getting some sticker shock. Officials there say they have not had the staff – and have been estimating water bills for as much as the past 12 months.
Now, they are beginning to look at the meters and the bills are a lot higher than expected. Some residents say it’s as much as double as what they normally pay.
