Highlands County sheriff’s divers are out in Lake Verona again today. Reportedly, they are looking to see if 16-year-old Larry Huffman may have drown there. The Avon Park youth has been missing for better than a day and there have been reports he might have run into the water near Donaldson Park.
Sheriffs officials remind residents that it’s a crime to conceal the location of a missing juvenile from law enforcement.

A boat reportedly went down in Lake Jackson over the weekend. According to reports, the 15′ craft was swamped and sank across from the bridge that spans the canal between Lake Jackson and Little Lake Jackson.
Owners say the boat was out on loan. Reportedly, they will be out today trying to raise it.

A 38-year-old Fort Myers woman was killed yesterday in a traffic crash west of Avon Park. Florida Highway Patrol officials say she was eastbound on State Road 64 near the intersection of Lake Olivia Drive – when her car drifted across the line and ran head-on into an oncoming tractor-trailer rig.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are trying to determine why she went across the road.

Florida Airport Management hasn’t taken over operation of the Avon Park airport yet – and already they are asking for city assistance. The Avon Park city council this evening will consider submitting a request for American Rescue Plan money.
Those funds would then go back to Florida Airport Management to be used for infrastructure projects at the airfield.
In other action, the council will look at signing an interlocal agreement with the Highlands Sheriff’s Office to participate in the Community Maintenance Program. and will hear requests to stage several public events in the City of Charm.

A Cocoa Beach man is facing murder charges after a woman riding on his motorcycle died following a high-speed shootout with a rival biker gang on I-4.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says the 33-year-old woman died hours after she was shot in the head in the gun battle on Interstate 4 between Lakeland and Orlando.
Authorities say 38-year-old Ronald Donovan is charged with felony murder for his female passenger’s death. Described as a member of the Sin City Deciles motorcycle gang, Donovan is also charged with attempted murder, resisting arrest, battery on a law enforcement officer and other offenses.
