News Update for 11/26/18

The City of Charm will officially kick off the Christmas season tonight with the annual Avon Park Christmas Parade. It’s the first processional of the year, and officials say it will be bigger and better than last year.
Some 70 units, including marching bands, dance troupes, antique cars, floats and more are expected to wend their way down Main Street. Many people set their chairs out early in the day to be assured of a good seat.
The parade will kick off tonight at 7:00.

Highlands County Sheriff’s officials still are looking for information about a shooting incident in the Highway Park neighborhood south of Lake Placid.
According to reports, two men, identified as Tavaris James and Robert Willis were found in a lot behind Highway Park Liquors early Saturday morning.
James had been shot in the abdomen and lower body – he was taken to Tampa General. Willis had a leg wound and was flown to Lee Memorial.
Authorities believe the perpetrators were in a gray-colored vehicle.

At least one person was seriously injured in an accident yesterday afternoon in Frostproof. Apparently a car and a van came together at the intersection of Highway 27 and County Road 630-A in the Friendly City.
Reportedly the car rolled over and one motorist reportedly suffered multiple broken bones. No other details have yet been released.

Polk county Sheriff’s officials say they have arrested a Winter Haven man in connection with a Lake Wales murder incident. Stephen Edward Roberts was shot and killed inside his Lake Buffum Road home.
Deputies now have arrested 18-year-old Stephen Nicholas Hunt in the incident. He has been charged with first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
