News Update for 12/10/20

A new study shows that more than a quarter of the jobs locally can be performed remotely. According to a recent survey conducted by “Outdoorsy” shows that 28.9-percent of all wage and salary workers in the Greater Sebring area have remote-friendly jobs.
Their statistics show that there are approximately 7400 local employees here, laboring in what they termed “remote friendly jobs.”

Highlands County Tourism officials today announced a new amateur golf tournament. The inaugural “Citrus Golf Trail Open” will make its debut next December.
Amateur men and women will challenge a half-dozen local courses including Pinecrest, River Greens, Sebring International Golf Resort. The Sebring Municipal Golf Course as well as Sun’N”Lake’s Deer Run and Turtle courses.
They say the local Boys & Girls clubs will benefit as part of the program.

The Avon Park city council will meet tonight as the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency for a special meeting. Among other things, they are expected to finish a job description for an Economic Development Coordinator to be stationed at the municipal airport. Also on the agenda are event grants, the possibility of funding a gardening project at the Boys & Girls Club, a budget discussion and action to require strict adherence to rules for their facade grant program.

A fire that drove a Lake Placid family from their home yesterday apparently rekindled overnight. Units were called to the home on Cedarbrook Street in response to a cooking fire. When they arrived, flames were coming through the roof of the single-story frame dwelling.
The family got out safely and no injuries were reported. But they have been displaced. Initial damage was set at $120,000.
