Things are heating up at the Sebring International Raceway as qualifying sessions get under way today for all competitors in the Alan Jay Piston’s & Props event. In addition to members of Historic Sports Car Racing vying for the top spots on the grid, three races also are planned.
Fans can see the BRM V / GTC Enduro, plus sprints in the Stoner Car Care Global GT and Classic RS Cup races. Tonight will be the annual night practice for the cars.
The historic warbirds will fly in tomorrow for their entry onto the racetrack. Pistons & Props runs through Sunday.
Preparations are being made for tomorrow’s annual Circle the Circle with cans event staged by the Sebring Salvation Army. It’s their annual drive to collect cash, cans and non-perishable foodstuffs. The proceeds will be used for Christmas Baskets for the less fortunate.
Bell-ringers will be set up on the spoke streets of the Historic Circle to collect donations, then place them around the edges of Circle Park.
It all gets underway tomorrow morning at 7:00.
There were no serious injuries but quite a bit of property damage in a Lake Wales accident. Police in the Crown Jewel of the Ridge say a distracted driver ploughed into the rear of one of their patrol cars, that had been stopped to help a stranded motorist.
The incident occurred on Highway 27 near Thompson Nursery Road. The cruiser was partially on the roadway, but had its lights activated. The chain-reaction accident gathered up two other vehicles.
Reportedly, the whole thing was captured on the officer’s body cam. A Fort Meyers driver has been charged with careless driving in the incident.
