There was a shooting last night around midnight in Sun N Lake off Granada Boulevard near the rear entrance to the District. Nobody hit by gunfire, but Sherriff’s deputies arrested a 44-year old white male on a collection of charges including attempted murder and kidnapping – names and specifics will come out when he’s arraigned later on this morning.

The Sheriff’s department could use a hand locating a suspect in a year-old criminal investigation. 24 year old Johntravious Tivarron Perry is wanted for first-degree murder in connection with the Dec. 1, 2020 shooting death of 16-year-old Dresean Charley Williams in Avon Park. Perry is 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds and is believed to have fled the county shortly after the shooting. Someone out there knows where he went – a cash reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information leading to his capture. If you have any information, anonymous tips can be left with Heartland Crime Stoppers, or call 402-7250.

It’s going to be another busy weekend in Highlands County … it all starts tonight with the Sebring Christmas Parade through downtown. Things line up on the Parkway north of North Ridgewood, and march down Ridgewood, around the Circle and down South Commerce. The action there begins at 7pm.

A half hour after the parade begins and about a two and a half hour drive away, the Sebring Blue Streak Football Team takes its shot at its first-ever State Semifinal Football game. The Streaks visit to-seeded Merritt Island for a 7:30 kickoff. If you’re not on the bus or have tickets, there’s a webcaster up in the space coast planning on showing the game. Look up Space Coast Daily on Facebook, or look for it on Apple TV, Roku or your Fire TV.

Later Saturday afternoon and into the evening, the Lake Placid Noon Rotary Club presents its annual World Famous Wild Game Dinner, south of Lake Placid. The event funds dozens of community projects and causes supported by the club – tickets are still available today online, at Frames and Images in Downtown Sebring, tomorrow morning and Lake Placid Feed and Western Wear, or at the gate.

You can do good for your neighbors today just by driving around the Circle – the Sebring Rotary Club’s annual “Circle Of Cans” is back today from 7am until 3pm. Rotarians and other volunteers will be on the Circle and spokes asking you to drop some money in the cans or donate food for the Salvation Army’s efforts to feed the less fortunate during the Holiday Season.

The Historic Sportscar Racing Alan Jay Pistons and Props event is this weekend at Sebring International Raceway. The Warbirds are slated to make an appearance today – a fleet of vintage aircraft down the back straightaway around 4:30 this afternoon, then head for the Paddock for fans to look ‘em over, up close and personal. Qualifying races will keep the track “hot” today till about 4pm. The event and races continue through Sunday.
