Highlands County firefighters had some work over the weekend. They assisted the Florida Forest Service extinguishing a brush fire south of State Road 70 in an old orange grove.
The blaze reportedly was an authorized burn which was left unattended by the land owner.
Units from Sun N Lake South, Lake Placid, and Venus were called for mutual aid. The fire charred better than five acres. There were no injuries reported and apparently no structures were damaged.
