News Update for 12/4/18

Highlands county Sheriff’s officials say they are looking for a couple of suspects in connection with that Sunday evening shooting in Avon Park.
Wanted in connection with the case are 18-year-old Daniel Luis Galarza and 16-year-old Sebastian Martinez. Both are wanted on numerous counts including attempted murder and robbery. Both are from Avon Park and are believed to be together.
Two male victims – one 21-years-old, the other a 17-year old were taken to hospitals. Their names were not released. The injuries are said not to be life threatening.
A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Galarza and Martinez.

Due to the threat of rain, the Avon Park Chamber of Commerce decided to postpone last night’s “Christmas in the Park” musical performance. It has been rescheduled for this coming Thursday night at 6:00.
The annual Avon Park Christmas Parade was rained on last week on it’s traditional date. Much of it was cancelled after lightning warnings were posted for the area,

That third traffic circle for the Sebring Parkway will be up for discussion when Highlands County commissioners get together this morning. There are “roundabouts” proposed for both ends of the thoroughfare, now another is being suggested for the 90-degree turn location.
The Sebring city council already has voted to foot the bill for part of that intersection.
In other action, commissioners will consider putting more land on the tax rolls. There are 103 properties that the county will be putting out for bid.

An elderly Polk County man was attacked by an alligator but suffered no serious injuries.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Brian Bruchey says the alligator bit the man’s foot.
He was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure.
Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were searching for the alligator at a lake in the Lakeland retirement community.
