Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies made short work of a shoplifting case in Avon Park yesterday. Reportedly, it took only eight minutes for Deputy Ryan Garza and K-9 Benji to track down a suspect who reportedly took goods from the Wal-Mart store in the City of Charm – then fled into a nearby grove.
They found 40-year-old Reggie Hammond. He’s been charged with petit theft and tresspassing in an orange grove.
It appears one of the Santas who has appeared on the Historic Circle in downtown Sebring for better than a decade has been given his walking papers. Now, at least some residents are trying to get him back. An online petition has gained more than 700 supporters in calling for Curtis White to be re-instated on Santa’s Magical Throne.
Reports indicate that a complaint is what got him canned.
A public relations crisis consultant hired to advise a Florida school district after a mass shooting is apologizing after dismissing the district’s critics as “crazies” and calling a reporter a “skanky” “jerk” who “smells bad.” A leaked video shows Sara Brady making the comments to an audience of public relations professionals in July. The Broward school district paid her nearly $75,000 for advice after 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
The father of a Florida woman who went missing while celebrating her 36th birthday in Costa Rica has identified her body, found near the villa she rented. A posting on the “Finding Carla” Facebook page says Costa Rican authorities allowed the family to view the body, which was found Monday half-buried and covered in plastic near the AirBnB villa Carla Stefaniak rented last month. Costa Rican authorities have arrested a security guard at the resort.
