News Update for 12/8/20

Today at noon is the deadline for residents in Highlands County to apply for money from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security Act. Round three was set for those who had not yet applied and those who might have applied in the past but were mis-catagorized.
All details for the application must be filed digitally. Those needing more information may find it at the Highlands County commission web page.

Highlands County commissioners, local agencies, affilations and interested residents will gether tomorrow at the Highlands County Government Center for the annual legislative delegaton. Florida State Senator Benny Albritton and newly-elected Florida State Representative Kaylee Tuck will be there to hear about local concerns before the start of the upcoming legislative delegation.
The session will commence tomorrow morning at 9:30. those wishing to speak may get on the schedule by calling Senator Albritton’s office.

Firefighters from West Sebring and Desoto City were called to the report of a housefire yesterday in the Golfview Road area. According to reports, the front porch of a home there had caught fire, but had been largely extinguished by the time units arrived at the scene.
Reportedly, the homeownmer took a garden hose to the flames. Cause was said to have been accidental. Damage was set at $1,000, There were no injuries.

Hardee County Sheriff’s detectives reportedly are working on a puzzler. According to reports, one person IS dead and one person is in critical condition. According to the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call about an unconscious man who was not breathing at a home on Chamberlin Boulevard.
When officers arrived at the scene, the man was declared deceased and another individual in the home was transported to AdventHealth Sebring and is said to be in critical condition.
Hardee sheriff’s officials have not indicated how the two were injured or provide details about their identities. Investigators now are working to follow up on leads.
