News Update for 17 March 2022

Today marks one of the favorites of Race Week – Night Practice. Competitors in this year’s Mobil One 12 Hours of Sebring must do laps in the dark to show they can find their way around the historic Sebring International Raceway.
Qualifying will be held today for both 12 Hour competitors and those in the World Endurance Championship.
The Alan Jay 120 takes center stage starting with an autograph session for drivers then the running of the four hour endurance race.

Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies still are on the lookout for the guy that knocked over the Dollar General Store at Twitty Road and Highway 27 yesterday. They say a man with a gun took an undisclosed amount of cash from the place, then fled. There were no injuries reported
The thief is described as a white male, about 5′ 10" tall. Authorities say he is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information should notify law enforcement.

A would-be burglar was shot and wounded by a homeowner near Lake Placid yesterday. Reportedly, the incident occurred in the area of Fox Ridge and Cherry roads.
Apparently, it revolves around a domestic dispute. The alleged perpetrator suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was treated, arrested, and taken to the Highlands County jail.

Polk County Sheriff’s Officials say two men who were fighting in the middle of the road, were struck and killed in the community of Auburndale early yesterday morning.
According to reports, 25-year-old Brian Burgess II and 27-year-old Kanean Parrish were in the midst of a physical altercation, when they were hit by a car. The driver of the black 2008 Pontiac G6, identified as 68-year-old Willie Leach of Eagle Lake, was not hurt.
Apparently, the two Auburndale men were roommates and were having a disagreement when they were struck and killed.
