News Update for 2/12/20

It’s day six of the Highlands County Fair. A couple of Ag-Shows are planned. The second Pee-Wee Show will be at 5:30 with a cute factor of ten. At 6:30 the Goat Show & Showmanship will be held. The Grizzly Experience and Scott’s World of Magic will be there for the run of the fair – which ends this coming Saturday.

The investigation continues into the death of Margaret Helen Becker. The 81-year-old Sebring woman went missing for two weeks last month. The Chevy Colorado she had been driving later was found submerged in the Kissemmee River – but she was not in it.
A gate guard at the Avon Park Bombing Range late told detectives Becker apparently drove through his checkpoint without stopping. Why she was not pursued is not known.
Officials of the 598th Range Squadron have pledged to work with local law enforcement agencies during their investigation.

There will be a motorcade today as Reality TV Star Paul Teutul Sr. delivers another custom-made chopper-style motorcycle to the Alan Jay Automotive Network.
Paul, Sr. will ride the exclusive “Lincoln Chopper” from the Sebring Regional Airport to the Alan Jay Ford Lincoln dealership today – on Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday.
A number of residents plan to ride motorcycles or drive classic cars in an impromptu motorcade. It’s all set to begin at the airport parking lot around 10:30am.
Paul Sr. is slated to arrive just before 11am and lead the mini-parade through downtown Sebring to the dealership on Highway 27 South for the official presentation.

A Lake Wales man was seriously injured yesterday when he lost control of his motorcycle and went over. Police in the Crown Jewel of the Ridge say the accident occurred on Highway 27, just south of the Mountain Lake Cutoff Road. Witnesses said 61-year-old Timothy David Mason was leaning over, and appeared to be working on the bike as he rode.
The Big Harley went over, threw Mason and slid for about 300 feet. mason was taken to Lakeland Regional with reported life-threatening injuries.
