News Update for 2/22/24

The problems reported this with AT&T or First Net cell phones reportedly now may have expanded to Verison, T-Mobile, Boost and others. There has been a nationwide outtage that locked many of the phones in SOS mode. So far, company officials have not indicated what has caused the issue.
Among other things, apparently customers are locked out of calling 9-1-1 but they can call the Highlands County Sheriff’s office main number at 402-7200.

Test & tune sessions continue today for the Sports Car Vintage Racing Association competitors slated to run this weekend in the SVRA SpeedTour event at the Sebring International Raceway.
In addition to the nearly 200 classic and vintage race cars, the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli will open their 2024 season as part of the weekend as well.

The Florida Cracker Trail riders made their traditional half-way crossing at Highway 27 yesterday – although they got a little behind schedule for the usual noon parade.
The riders and wagoneers hope to pick up the pace today as they ride out of Highlands to Okechobee along US 98. Motorists in the area are urged to use caution as they pass the processional.
