There were reportedly no serious injuries in a single car accident early this morning on County Road 17 south of Avon Park. Reportedly a vehicle went off the road and hit a power pole arund 4:30.
Apparently the driver did not need to be transported.
A new survey by Flippa shows that generally, high-income residents pay most of the taxes. But that’s not so here in Highlands County.
High earners in the Avon Park/Sebring metro area pay less than one percent of the tax burden. According to the numbers, households earning over $200,000 a year locally make about $430,000 and pay an average of $3,700 in taxes.
That sets Highlands at the fifth lowest for state and local taxes among small metros surveyed.
If you need some help from the Highlands County Veterans service office, you’ll have to go to a new location for a while.
The Veteran Services Office on George Blvd. south of Sebring suffered a water pipe break in the building earlier this week.
They were closed yesterday, but will re-open today at the Bert J. Harris Agricultural Civic Center on George Blvd.
The staff will be in Conference Room Three at the back of the building until repairs are made.
Practice and qualifying begins today for the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association and the Trans-Am series presented by Pirelli, as the 2024 SpeedTour event gets underway in earnest. It’s the home opener for both the SVRA and Trans-Am, and officials say there are more than 200 cars in the paddock ready to run.
On addition to a series of sprint races, the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car and the Haggerty Cars & Caffiene show will be part of the weekend.
The event runs through Sunday.
