News Update for 2/25/20

The Avon Park city council met in regular session last night and when all was said and done, more was said than done. Council members discussed the problem of illegal street vendors in the City of Charm.
Councilwoman Maria Sutherland said she had seen vendors with black market goods set up on the streets without permits or other permissions.
Highlands County Sheriff’s Major Darren Hood told the council it was a code enforcement issue, but pledged that if deputies should see any such activity, they would notify the city.

A West Palm Beach man was seriously injured early yesterday morning when the car he was driving slammed into a semi-truck.
Florida Highway Patrol officials say 31-year-old Leonardo Gutierrez Rubian was eastbound oh State Road 70. A tractor trailer rig made a left turn onto Highway 27. Rubian was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital.
Troopers say the color of the light at the intersection remains under investigation.

A North Port man has been killed in a Hardee County traffic crash. Florida Highway Patrol officials say 29-year-old Justin Davis was eastbound on State Road 64 near Griffin Road when his Honda Civic went left of center. The car hit the back wheels of an oncoming tractor-trailer rig,
Troopers say they’re still not certain what caused Davis to cross the center line.
