News Update for 2/27/20

Local motorists may be seeing more race teams pouring in to the area, as the Sebring International Raceway gets a jump on its March activities. This weekend is the Spring Vintage Classic – staged by the Sports Car Vintage Racing Association.
The highlight of the race weekend will be the opener for the Trans-Am racing series – which got its start in Sebring more than a half century ago. There will be more than a hundred other vintage and historic cars in their own races – which will be held Saturday and Sunday.
Registration and tech inspection is on tap for today, with testing to begin tomorrow.

New Avon Park City Manager Mark Schrader is having some busy days in the early part of his tenure. Scrader has told council members he wants to sit down with each of them individually this week and talk about the state of the City of Charm.
Schrader told the council he’s stepped into a situation with “a lot of urgent items.” He noted that he’s down several key positions in his staff and needs to get some time to review what’s going on in the organization.
Schrader noted he has been working to get a finance director for the city, Among other things, Shrader told the council that Avon Park has no infrastructure director and the code enforcement agence needs review.

Polk County sheriff’s officials are investigating an incident where a pedestrian was struck by a deputy’s cruiser. The incident happend on US 98 in Bartow. Early reports incidcate it appears that a pedestrian ran out into the roadway, and into the path of the oncoming car.
Killed was 44-year-old Thomas Morrison. Reports indicate Deputy
Forrest Scott took evasive action, but clippd Morrison with the bumper. Authorities say the investigation into the matter continues.
