News Update for 3/11/21

It looks like the new Church Service Center building in Avon Park may be getting a second story. After hearing a presentation on plans for the new structure and its apparent lack of space, Avon Park city council members suggested they might go up another floor to provide needed room for the service.
The current price tag for the structure is around $100,000. However, council members volunteered they have $250,000 to spend on the project. When completed, the metal building will join four other similar structures in the neighborhood.

The Sebring Community Redevelopment Agency is planning a special input session tonight, to determine the future of the downtown area for the City on the Circle.
Residents can make their opinions known either in person or by way of the internet. CRA officials are looking at reviving a quarter-century old “Waterfront District.” It could mean the demolition of part of the Art League’s building complex as well as the Sebring Library.
That session will be held from 5-7 this evening at the Jack Stroup Civic Center in the Alan Altvader Cultural Complex.

A car and a Highlands County Sheriff’s cruiser collided yesterday. The incident occurred at the intersection of Highway 27 and US 98.
Apparently there was some bent sheet metal but no injuries were reported
