Firefighters were busy last night south of Lake Placid. Flames reportedly broke out in a single wide mobile home on Martin Street shortly before 8:PM. Units from Lake Placid, Highlands Park, Sun ‘N Lakes South and Venus were called to the blaze down near Highway 70.
No injuries were reported. Officials say apparently the structure was vacant. Authorities say it appears to have been a total loss. The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to determine the cause.
They’re not for a while yet, but activities continue for a couple of big racing events here in Highlands County. Workers currently are constructing the paddock village for teams coming for the World Endurance Championship race to be held at the Sebring International Raceway as part of this year’s SuperSebring 2020. Fans already are parked outside the main gate waiting for race week.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway at the Avon Park MowerPlex for this year’s Nationals. Officials of NASGRASS say they are expecting a couple of participants from England to fly in for that one.
