News Update for 4/8/21

Highlands County sheriff’s deputies along with Florida Department of Law Enforcement and US Drug Enforcement agents have made a major bust.
A raid on a Shad Drive residence west of Sebring has netted pounds of marijuana, cocaine and various prescription drugs. In addition to drug paraphernalia, lawmen found a large cache of weaponry.
43-year-old William Diaz has been arrested and charged with numerous counts including armed drug trafficking, possession with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphanallia.

It was a two for one yesterday for local firefighters. Units from Lake Placid, Placid Lakes and Sun ‘N Lakes South responded to a mobile home fire on EA Smith Avenue in Lake Placid. That resulted in a subsequent brush fire.
No injuries were reported. The single-wide was totally destroyed. Damage there was set at $20,000. No cause has yet been determined.

Boaters wanting to put-in on Lake Jackson this weekend, will have to use the Elk’s Lodge ramp. That’s because a jet ski racing event will be dominating Veteran’s Beach. The Liqui Molly Pro Watercross National Tour will be opening their season this Saturday and Sunday in Sebring.
As many as 120 competitors from across the country are expected to take part in the event – which will be free for spectators along Veterans Beach both Saturday and Sunday.

There will be a race at the Sebring International Raceway tonight, but it won’t be at the track. It’s the virtual season opener of the 2021 IMSA iRacing Pro Series Presented by SimCraft. It all will be staged on the interet
Competitors will go online to the virtual Sebring International Raceway for an hour-long event. It will be streamed live on iRacing’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
For those who want to log in, it starts at 6:30pm and features more than 30 of the world’s top sports car drivers.
The race broadcast will include coverage and commentary from John Hindhaugh and the IMSA Radio crew.
