A Sebring woman was killed in a traffic accident yesterday afternoon north of Lake Placid. According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, the 55-year old driver was pulling from Lake Josephine Drive across Highway 27, when she was hit by an oncoming van.

No charges have been filed.

It’s going to be a busy weekend in the heartland. First, the Liqui Molly Pro Watercross National Tour will be opening their season on Lake Jackson in Sebring. That means the Veterans’ Beach boat ramps will be closed most of the day both tomorrow and Sunday.
However, the ramp at the Elks Lodge in Sebring will be open for those wanting to put in. The Jet-Ski competition may be viewed from Vets’ Beach or from boats on the water.

Also slated for tomorrow will be the “Fire it Up” Food & Music Festival in Frostproof. In addition to a barbecue competition, there will be live music, a jeep show and carnival games.
That will start at 2:00 tomorrow afternoon at Henderson Field and run into the evening.

Some more local students are distinguishing themselves through academics. Officials at South Florida State College say two of their youngsters have been tapped for the 2021 All Florida Academic Team.
Sara Canali and Camila Rimoldi were selected for the team. They were cited for their academic achievement as well as leadership and service to the community. They will get their honorarium at ceremonies on April 23.
