News Update for 6/29/21

Lake Wales police have announced they have captured Tex Gifford. With the assistance of the Winter Haven Police Department, Gifford, was arrested and taken into custody at a home on Summit Cir in Winter Haven.
The Sebring man is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting incident in the Lincon Heights community of Lake Wales. A Bradenton man was killed and a Lake Wales man was injured when gunfire erupted in a large crowd on the evening of Father’s Day.

Sebring has its auto-scooters, now Avon Park may have its auto kayaks. Adam Greenstien of rent dot fun came before the city council last night to propose a plan to put up a computer dispenser for kayaks on Lake Verona.
Users would download an APP on their phone that would allow them access to the steel mesh locker holding either kayaks or paddle boards. Customers then would be charged by the hour and billed electronically.
Council members seemed amenable and will look at the possibility of a contractual arrangement.

The Highlands County school board will get together for a couple of special sessions this afternoon. At 3:00 they will look at a number of individual budgets and personnel allocation for the upcoming school year.
The 4:00 session is set to review a number of out-of-zone transfer requests made by parents that previously had been turned down. More than a dozen of the issues are set to be considered there.

The city of Avon Park is rebuilding their website and are in search of some pictures of the City of Charm to populate it. Officials say they need the shots in a 16-to9 ratio – which would be a “landscape” format.
All those who submit pictures will get online photo credit. They ask that pictures be emailed to webmaster at avon park dot city.
The site currently is under construction – no word on when it might go live.
