News Update for 6/30/21

The long arm of the law has nabbed “Tex” Gifford.” Lake Wales police with the assistance of the Winter Haven Police Department arrested the Sebring man. He was taken into custody without incident at a home on Summit Circle in Winter Haven.
Gifford is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting incident in the Lincoln Heights community of Lake Wales. A Bradenton man was killed and a Lake Wales man was injured when gunfire erupted in a large crowd on the evening of Father’s Day.

Avon Park city council members have passed on first reading a measure that will include artisan manufacturing and craft food & beverage production in the City of Charm. That would allow such things as craft beer and jewelry to be made and sold on premises.
The measure now will be sent back to the planning & zoning board to deal with such things as outside storage, streetside dining and noise provisions – that could permit live entertainment.

Shoppers alert – we’ll be celebrating more than American Independence Day this weekend! A new sales tax holiday is set to begin tomorrow.
Consumers may purchase qualifying recreation and outdoor items such as camping fishing and boating supplies as well as admissions to festivals, museums parks and other entertainment and cultural events.
They will be exempt from tax during the so-called Freedom Week Sales Tax Holiday. The event will extend through next Wednesday, July 7.
