A Highlands County commissioner has received a prestigious award. District 4 Commissioner Arlene Tuck was presented with the Florida Association of Counties’ "Presidential Advocacy Award" at the FAC Annual conference.
During the conference, Tuck was re-appointed to a number of committees, including; the Finance & Audit Committee, the Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee, the Community & Urban Affairs Policy Committee, and the Finance, Tax, & Administration Committee.
She is also a member of the Small County Coalition.
Frostproof city council members are set to approve the fire assessment for the upcoming fiscal year when they meet in regular session this evening. Residents in the Friendly City will pay $167 annually for a single family home.
In other action, the council will move to regulate food trucks, setting rules for mobile food dispensing vehicles. They also will look at changing five acres of property in town from Agricultural to low density residential zoning to allow for a planned unit development.

Two Polk County residents were killed and two other injured in a weekend traffic crash in Hardee County. Florida Highway Patrol officials say two Mullberry youngsters died when the Hyundai SUV they were riding in went off State Road 62 and slammed into a concrete power pole.
The driver, a 43-year-old Winter Haven man, and a 34-year-old Mullberry woman were seriously injured. Florida Highway Patrol reports indicate the roadway was wet at the time of the crash.
