A committee to select a new sex education curriculum in the Highlands County Schools will convene again this evening. The two dozen committee members will now look at parameters on what they seek to have taught in the classroom, and what is not presented to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
The action comes in the wake of problems with a program conducted under the Heartland Rural Health Network and an apparent lack of oversight by Highlands County schools’ administrators.
There were some tense moments over the weekend when a house caught fire in Sebring. Units from Desoto City and West Sebring were called to the Ivory Drive address Saturday evening where a propane tank apparently caught fire. No injuries were reported in the fire. No dollar damage estimate was released.

Any such action would have to come from the city’s planning & zoning commission to be considered by council.
