News Update for 9/17/19

Highlands County commissioners took another step today in building the government-run fire service here. They approved taking out a $5.5 million dollar note. That money is slated to be used for building fire stations, purchasing vehicles and equipment.
In other action, the commission will look at a $147,000 contract with Casey Hartt to run the county’s tourism development arm and consider a proposed $94,000 expansion at the Sun ‘N Lake Racquet Club.

Officials say things are in readiness for tomorrow’s Blessing of the Businesses event. The eighth annual gathering will be held in the Family Life Center at the First United Methodist Church on Pine Street in Sebring.
The event is designed to lift up in prayer the businesses and services of the area. Guest speaker this year will be Sebring native and former Major League Baseball player Richard Cormier.
The doors will open for the event tomorrow morning at 11am – officials say it will be finished by 1:00.
