It’ll be a big meeting for the Avon Park city council tonight when they get together for their last meeting of September. They’ll first hold public hearings and approvals for their millage rate and budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Although they voted to leave their millage rate unchanged, tax totals in the city of charm may rise due to increased property valuations in the county.
In other action, the council will look at implementing state-mandated impact reports for legislation they pass and its effect on business, and again will discuss a request from the Florida Airport Management group regarding a pay raise for their activities at the city’s airport.
Firefighters from Desoto City, Leisure Lakes, and Lake Placid were called out to put out a house fire. Reportedly, the vacant mobile home was located off Rising R Road in Lake Placid.
No injuries were reported in the incident, cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimate was released.
