EARLY VOTING

The polls are open for early voting in Highlands County and officials say already the lines are very long.
Polling places are set up at the Supervisor of Elections Operation Center on Kenilworth Blvd in Sebring, at the city council chambers in Avon Park City Hall and at the Lake Placid Town Government Center.
Voting by mail already has started, Supervisor of Elections Penny Ogg says her office has received 15,593 ballots so far. To be decided in this year’s elections are seats ranging from the Highlands County commission all the way up to the President of the United States.

FATAL

Florida Highway Patrol officials now say yesterday’s fatal accident on State Road 66 involved three vehicles. A motorcycle, a semi tractor-trailer rig and a pickup all reportedly are listed on the incident report.
Tne name and other details of the mishap have not been released. The stretch of State Road 66 between Highway 27 and Sparta Road was shut down for a time yesterday while the accident was investigated.

SAA PLANS

There are some big plans being made out at the Sebring Regional Airport. They involve a new Hangar Complex with 50,000 square feet of commercial space. Also in the works is a 1776 foot extension to the primary runway. That will make it easier for corporate and regional jet traffic.
Airport officials say they hope to have the first phase of the project completed in the next cople of years.

12 HOUR GRAND MARSHAL

The postponed Mobil One 12 Hours of Sebring is going to have a very special guest. Mario Andretti will be the grand marshal for the November edition of the Once-Around-The-Clock endurance classic.
Andretti is a three time winner of the race and a member of the Sebring International Raceway Hall of Fame. His 1970 race win is condidered to be one of the greatest drives in sports car history.
It is unclear whether he will be stayng in the suite that bears his name at Seven: The Sebring Raceway Hotel.
