NEWS 7/23/19 BF BoCC MILLAGE After talking with Highlands County Clerk of Courts Bob Germaine, Supervisor of Elections Penny Ogg and Highlands County Sheriff Paul Blackman about budget cuts, Highlands County commissioners this morning certified the county’s tentative millage at 9.0. News Update for 7/22/19

A couple of traffic incidents on State Road 70 kept law enforcement officials busy overnight. Shortly before 9:00, four vehicles reportedly collided on Highway 70 East out toward Okeechobee. Authorities indicate five people were transported. One apparently was airlifted out, the rest were taken to a hospital with what were said to be minor injuries. Continue reading

Highlands County commissioners held a rare night meeting yesterday in order to hold a workshop on the budget. They worked on trimming back their expenditures by just over $330,000.
