Early voter turnout has been light in the Avon Park municipal election. Officials of the Highlands County Supervisor of elections office say they have had 277 mail-in ballots and another 156 early ballots cast – which is a total of 8.74 percent of the city’s 4,956 active registered voters. It appears the bears are on the move again – and through some populated areas. Sebring Middle School’s dismissal was interrupted yesterday when a small bruin was spotted near campus just before school let out. Students walking or riding their bikes were held up.
