We just KNOW you’re ready for another election, but the City of Sebring has one coming up next Tuesday, and Early Voting is available now at the Supervisor of Elections office on South Commerce Avenue. There’s only one item on the ballot, but it’s a consequential one – a Charter Amendment Changing the City Clerk Position from an Elected Official to a City Employee. If it passes, whoever succeeds Kathy Haley when she retires will report to the City Council as an employee whose duties they’ll define. Under the current structure, the City Clerk is an elected position and serves as Tax Collector, Chief Elections Officer, and Treasurer of the City.
Spring Lake and the Sebring Airport Authority are neighbors – but they don’t always get along. Spring Lake’s Improvement District has won a round in court after Judge Peter Estrada ruled that the Airport Authority DOES have to pay a $74,000-plus bill for maintenance to the District’s stormwater control system. Spring Lake says the activity upstream from the Airport Authority accounts for up to 43% of the system’s volume and sent them a bill for their share of the expenses.
If you travel Sebring’s “car streets” heading back and forth each day, you might want to be forewarned – Grand Prix Drive is going to be closed tomorrow about a block north of Thunderbird Road. They’ll have detours posted. It’s a culvert repair expected to just take a day, but weather can always slow things like that down.
