Brian Hass of the State Attorney’s office this afternoon revealed that a Highlands County Grand Jury has returned five counts of first degree murder against Zephan Xaver.
He is the man charged in connection with a shooting incident at the Lake Jackson branch of the SunTrust Bank that claimed five lives. Haas also revealed that he has decided to seek the death penalty in the case.
In an appearance before radio, television and newspaper reporters, Haas declined to answer any specific questions in connection with the incident. He noted that they had concerns about 1. Preserving the case and 2. consideration of the victims families.
He asked the community to keep the families in their prayers.
The next step will be the arraignment of Xaver – that has been set for February 25.
A go Fund Me page has been established for the Sebring Strong Survivors’ Fund. That has topped $80,000 for relief for the victims’ families.
