News Update for 1/1/21

Officials at Advent Health Sebring say we have a new resident in Highlands County. Reportedly, the first birth of the new year came earlier this morning. The baby boy came into the world at 6:21am.
Meanwhile, there was one last birth of 2020. Another little boy was born last night at the facility shortly after 11:00. Hospital officials say both mothers and sons are doing fine.

Detectives in Sebring are trying unravel the circumstances surrounding the first stabbing of the new year. They beleive it may have occurred around Broad Street about 4:30 this morning.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are working what has been described as a bad accident. Two vehicles came together just after 11:00 at S Sun ‘N Lakes Blvd. and Sunnybrook Lane in Lake Placid.
FHP officials have not released any other information on that incident.

A bicyclist in Lake Wales was killed last night after being struck by no fewer than five vehicles. Police in the Crown Jewel of the Ridge say the cyclist was pedaling down the middle of Highway 27, just south of the intersecton of Highway 60 when the accident occurred.
Officers say apparently several vehicles were able to avoid him, but he was hit and run over by a string of cars and SUVs.
The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
