News Update for 10/27/20

The numbers continue to climb quickly as voters cast their ballots in this year’s general election. Locally, Highlands County Supervisor of Elections Penny Ogg said at last count 17,185 ballots had arrived by mail and another 12,703 residents had turned out at the three early polling places.
That’s a total of 29,913 ballots cast, or just over 45-percent of all the registered voters in the county. The early polls will be open through Saturday.
Election Day will be next Tuesday.

A new poll claims that Avon Park is the worst place to live in Florida. The numbers come according to a 24/;7 Wall Street analysis which examines communities where households have the most difficulties pursuing happiness and fulfillment.
The report indicated that the median home value in the City of Charm is $68,400, the poverty rate was pegged at 33-percent and its five-year annual jobless rate came in at almost 20-percent.

A couple of Polk County residents have escaped serious injury in a Hardeee County traffic crash. Florida Highway Patrol officials say a car driven by a 21-year-old Auburndale woman pulled from North Florida Avenue onto US 17 in Wauchula and into the path of an oncoming semi tractor-trailer.
The rig reportedly hit the car broadside and sent it skidding into a ditch. the driver of the car had minor injuries, the driver of the truck – from Winter Haven – was not hurt.
