It’s day two of Race Week at the Sebring International Raceway. Gates opened yesterday and many fans already are in place for the 68th running of the Mobil One 12 Hours of Sebring. This year’s race was moved back from March to November do to the coronavirus situation.
Today will feature one of the highlights of Race Week – night practice. All competitors in the 12 Hours will have a chance to run under the lights.
In fact, all classes will be on the track for practice and qualifying today – that includes the Lamborghni Super Trofeo, Porsche GT3 Cup, Michelin Challenge and WeatherTech series cars.
Yesterday, fans got a rare opportunity to walk the length of the circuit.
Avon Park city council members are calling on the Church Service Center to get them plans, so they can begin building a facility for them. The idea is to use insurance money from ravages of Hurricane Irma to the old fire department building, to knock it down and put a new structure on the lot.
Thomas Finneran of the Church Service Center told the council they were working on it. Council members asked if the Church service center had applied for any money from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. Finneran said he was unaware of the program.
Today is the day for Operation Green Light. Until 5:00 tonight, the Highlands County Clerk of the Courts will host a virtual event that will permit residents with suspended drivers licenses to pay their overdue court obligations.

As Highlands County continues to get swept with the outer bands of Tropical Storm Eta, officials at the Highlands Radio Group have cancelled the Avon Park collection for Thanksgiving in the Highlands – which was slated for today.
Last week, personalities from 99.1FM WWOJ and Lite 105.7 FM collected $1,000 in donations plus a van-full of canned goods and non-perishable foodstuffs in Sebring. Next week the collection will wind up in Lake Placid.
Tropical Storm Eta made landfall early this morning near Cedar Key and continues to bring strong winds and rain across much of the central portion of the state.
Lakeland police detectives say two victims in a Tuesday murder investigation have been identified as a former Lakeland city commissioner and her husband.
Police authorities have identified the victims as 67-year-old Edith Henderson, formerly Edith Yates, served as a commissioner from 2006 until 2018.
The longtime commissioner and her husband, 63-year-old David Henderson, were found dead in their Lake Morton home. Detectives say they will release no other details at this time.
