It’s going to be a packed weekend in Highlands County. First, the Master Gardeners will host their "Let it Grow" Festival at the Highlands County Agri-Civic Center. In addition to hundreds of plants that actually will grow here, there will be arts & crafts vendors, food trucks, a silent auction, raffles and classes. That’ll run from 9-4.
From 5-10pm tomorrow evening, Heartland Horses & Equine Activities will host their annual Heartland Hoedown. Guests will see the drill team, meet the horses, eat and enjoy George Morris & The Lariat Band. That will be at the stables, just off College Drive in Avon Park behind South Florida State College.
A new local group is releasing their debut album on their own label. The Double Trouble X2 band will have the official rollout on Ashes & Embers records tomorrow night with a concert at the Tropical Winery in Lake Placid.
The band is known for their country and bluegrass performances with sisters Ashley & Emily Finke on twin fiddles.
The City of Frostproof, Florida has announced that once again, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd will appear in their Christmas Parade. The processional is slated to run on Saturday December 2nd and is one of the longest in Polk County.
A Lakeland man is accused of setting a food pantry on fire. Polk County Sheriff’s officials say deputies arrested Gordon Nelson for arson after the blaze at the New Testament Ministries Food Pantry in Lakeland.
Pantry co-founder Dais Abraham says the 60-year-old had been a regular at the property on Combee Road. Apparently, he said, just felt like setting it on fire.
Damages are estimated at 150-thousand dollars, and Abraham also says this will affect a lot of families who depend on the pantry for food and support – especially inthe Thanksgiving season.
