Hundreds of people turned out yesterday afternoon to hear the official announcement that the city of Sebring will be the subject of HGTV’s "Hometown Takeover" program. That’s where professional designers come in and re-do businesses, homes and public spaces to make an area more attractive.
Apparently, the project is being done in cooperation with the Sebring Community Redevelopment Agency, which has spent three decades reducing slum & blight in the City on the Circle.
The project is slated to take about four months to complete.
By a 3-2 vote, Highlands County commissioners this morning voted to enact a four month moratorium on the acceptance, processing and/or consideration of any petition, application or request on lands for mobile home parks.
A number of projects already in process reportedly will not be affected by the moratorium – while commissioners look at rules and regulations for such developments.
The Florida Cracker Trail riders will continue to make their way through Hardee County today. The group will be riding along State Road 64 West.
The plan is to stay overnight near Zolfo Springs, and head into Highlands County tomorrow. Here, the riders and wagoneers will stop by the Cracker Trail Elementary School and make their traditional half-way crossing on Highway 27.
Motorists in the area are urged to watch out and use caution.
Highlands County commissioners will take formal action today on a temporary moratorium on zoning lands for mobile home parks. They will hold a public hearing on the matter before taking final action.
Commissioners also will consider the adoption of a half dozen zoning changes, moving better than 600 acres from Conservation & Management Lands to an Agricultural designation.
They also are slated to take action overhauling the boardroom’s audio-visual equipment. That’s expected to take about $150,000.
