It’s officially Race Week in Sebring. Gates were opened yesterday at the Sebring International Raceway and fans began pouring in for the next four days of music, activities and racing action in this year’s Mobil One 12 Hours of Sebring presented by Cadillac.
Practice sessions begin this morning for cars in the four support series that will be running sprint races over the next three days – in preparation for the big race. There also will be live music on the Fan Zone stage, and – later this evening – fans can have a beer with Sebring International Raceway President Wayne Estes in the Fan zone as well.
A Sebring man has been arrested in connection with a bank robbery in Lake Wales. 42-year-old Dennis T. Davis is accused of being the man who walked into the Bank of America location, and took cash at gunpoint from the institution.
Police with dogs responded quickly, and reportedly found Davis hiding in some nearby bushes. He was identified by witnesses and taken into custody.
Davis was booked into the Polk County jail.
Avon Park city council members, working with the city’s planning & zoning board, have decided how to handle a proliferaton of shipping containers popping up around town being used for storage.
They will grandfather in the current units, but require that they have a uniform paint scheme, and no more stacking of the containers. Going forward, they will no longer be allowed in residential areas, and semi-trailers also will be prohibited.
