Race week ramps up in Sebring today, as fans who have been parked across from Gate 4 will be allowed entrance to the Sebring International Raceway to set up camp in their respective areas, to get ready for this year’s Mobil One 12 Hours of Sebring presented by Cadillac.
Tonight will be the sixth annual transporter parade through downtown Sebring. Trucks carrying the new GTP hypercars will make their way around the Circle in a caravan that then will make its way out to the track.
On the Historic Circle there will be music and an appearance by a brace of drivers for the 12 Hours, who will answer questions and sign autographs for the fans.
The Highlands Radio Group will be on scene broadcasting live.
All the activity will begin on the Circle in downtown Sebring at 5:30 this evening.
There was a full frontal assault on the Avon Park administration at last night’s city council meeting. It began with resident Emilo Garabaldi complaining that he could not get on the agenda to discuss his proposal for the Main Street property where the Wilde Building once sat. That conversation centered around City Manager Mark Schrader, who had told the developer his ideas did not mesh with the provisions in the city council’s published request for proposal.
Councilwoman Shelly Mercure called for a job review for Schrader.
Reading from a prepared statement, resident Stephen Madre called into question Mayor Garrett Anderson’s dealing in the aquisition of the Brickell Building. Councilwoman Bernice Taylor then called for an investigation by the State Commission on Ethics, saying she had been provided with a thick packet of evidence. The motion for that investigation failed by a 3-2 vote.
A child is dead after a shooting in Polk County. It happened last night in Lakeland at an apartment complex. Police say a three-year-old and an adult were killed. Another adult was hurt but is expected to survive. No arrest has been announced, and there’s no word on a motive.
Two people appear to be behind a series of thefts in Polk County. Lakeland Police announced yesterday that two men were arrested last week for multiple thefts of wire from light poles around the city. They are 46-year-old Toby Ledford and 38-year-old Adam Byrd. Both are from Lakeland. Police say they found in Ledford’s car numerous bundles of wire and tools used in the thefts. The LPD says the two admitted they were going to sell the wire to a scrapyard.
