First it was the Circle Theatre, now, it appears the Champion For Children’s Foundation may be dealing off another property on the Historic Circle in downtown Sebring. Apparently, they are in negotiations with Jim and Coleen Polatty to sell off the Garden of Joy, adjacent to the theater.
The hope is to create a garden in memory of deceased children. The garden originally was dedicated to their son Jimmy, who died of a heart attack. The couple says they also are planning to add an "angel garden," in memory of another youth.
The Polattys plan is to recruit garden club members and other interested citizens to maintain the facility, and use it for various social events.
It appears that the City of Charm is in good financial shape. At their meeting last night, Avon Park City Council members were told the city is "Right where we should be."
It was part of the quarterly report issued by Finance Director Melanie Saurhafer, who outlined the muncipal revenues and expenditures on the city books to date.
Those who want to get a message to Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s office will have an opportunity today. Rubio is sending a staff member to conduct mobile office hours at the Avon Park Library. He will offer constituant services from 10:30 this morning until 12:30 this afternoon.
Some people already have scheduled appointments, however, reportedly others will be seen on a first come, first served basis.
The second case of rabies this year in Polk County has been confirmed in Frostproof. Apparently, a dog had fought with a racoon.
The canine was able to kill the animal, which subsequently tested positive for rabies. Deputies say apparently, the dog is current on its rabies vaccination.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd has warned residents to make certain their pets are vaccinated, and if they get "tangled up, or mess with any wildlife, notify animal control officers."
