A former Sebring High School teacher is facing three felony charges following an investigation by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities arrested 26-year-old Chandler Gowan Tuesday on charges including soliciting a romantic relationship with a student and unauthorized access to student records. Investigators say Gowan allegedly gave a 14-year-old student a note asking, “Do you like me?” Gowan resigned from the school district in April.

The Hardee County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a Zolfo Springs man wanted on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. Deputies say Michael Earnest Collier is wanted on an outstanding warrant and may still be in the area. Authorities are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office or Heartland Crime Stoppers. Deputies warn the public not to approach him and to call law enforcement instead.

A violent road rage attack in Winter Haven has led to the arrest of a Lakeland man. Deputies say the incident happened Wednesday after two trucks allegedly cut off another driver. Investigators say one suspect blocked the victim’s vehicle, pulled him from the car, and struck him with a hammer in front of his children. The victim suffered a broken nose and other injuries. Thirty-nine-year-old Jose Antonio Rosa Negron now faces multiple felony charges.

Avon Park will celebrate the grand opening of its new baseball wing at the Depot Museum this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibit features historic memorabilia, including a Babe Ruth bat, Hal McRae’s World Series rings, and tributes to local baseball legends.
