A Sebring man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he carjacked a vehicle during an incident on May 6th. Investigators say 32-year-old Marion Pina Miranda allegedly punched a driver and stole a Chevy Equinox before leading deputies on a chase at speeds topping 100 miles per hour. The pursuit ended near Arbuckle Creek Road, where Miranda surrendered without incident. He now faces carjacking and several traffic-related charges.

The Sebring City Council is expected to consider a long-term lease agreement today for the city’s municipal golf course. The proposed deal would lease the course, restaurant, and pro shop to the Blackmon family for 50 years at one dollar per year. The agreement also requires the restoration of Historic Harder Hall to be completed by September of 2031, or the lease would automatically terminate. The Blackmon family purchased the historic hotel property in 2022 and restoration work is currently underway.

A 42-year-old Winter Haven man was killed in a chain-reaction crash Monday morning on the Polk Parkway in Polk County. Florida Highway Patrol says traffic had slowed on State Road 570 when a pickup truck towing a trailer failed to stop and slammed into the back of a Toyota sedan, pushing it into a tractor-trailer. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say the other two drivers were not injured and the crash remains under investigation.

Two Wahneta men landed in jail Sunday after deputies uncovered a not-so-great hiding spot during a warrant search near Rifle Range Road. Investigators say 52-year-old Jerry Smith tried sending deputies farther into the woods while 39-year-old Kevin Bragg stayed hidden in tall grass just feet away. Deputies quickly spotted Bragg attempting to stay out of sight and took both men into custody. Smith later told deputies he was trying to help because Bragg was his only friend.
